It cannot be rushed

On hearing about, or experiencing moments of, this state of alignment, harmony, peace and acceptance that some call ‘enlightenment’, there can be a desire to ‘get there now’. To ‘speed things up’. Complete whatever ‘tasks’ or overcome any ‘blocks’ that appear to be standing in the way.

What more could be required? Shadow work? Service? Meditation? Therapy? Maybe thinking more about it. Maybe ‘time to regulate the nervous system’. Because it certainly doesn’t work by demanding it ‘be here now’. This only seems to create frustration or ‘split’. Like there are two selves. One ‘enlightened’ and one not, and once these two are in ‘battle’, there can never be peace.

See, even in saying this, we create a ‘split’. A ‘before’ and ‘after’. A state of ‘dis-ease’ and a state of ‘peace’, that belies the very ‘truth’ we apparently seek - there is no separation.

In saying this of course I am not denying suffering or pain exist. On a material level, the effects of a strong belief in separation are very real. It can produce physical results - an increased heart rate, tension in the body - the extreme discomfort that comes from believing thoughts that are borne of a sense of separation. This is why so many books have been written. This is perhaps (though I cannot say for sure) why I write this article. There is separation. There is a ‘different state’. There is ‘enlightenment’ and ‘suffering’. And of course we have a preference for the former. Yet I wonder if you can also see the irony in that trying to ‘help’ (pointing to a ‘different state’) can serve to fuel the very dysfunction that needs to be helped out of (belief in a separate state). So really the only benefit that reading my words can have is to see that there is absolutely no point in doing so. (Although that may be the greatest ‘benefit’ one can obtain also).

I appreciate this has not been a ‘helpful’ article, and I make no apologies for that. There are plenty of ‘five step paths’ (or is it eight?) Out there for perusal. Perhaps that will ‘save you some time’ (or add to it…) And I’m not saying mine is ‘better’, or ‘more likely to get you enlightened’ either. Everything is equally useless. At least when it’s seen from the perspective of a ‘self’ seeking to become ‘whole’. There is no ‘great enough quality cheese’ to tempt a mouse into a trap it knows will kill it. Perhaps the ‘trick’ is subtly. ;)

That’s more than enough of that for now!

What does it mean to be ‘enlightened’?
